Lopez is one of just two volunteers in the county to receive the award, which is given each year in April, National Volunteer Month. Lopez began her association with Neighbors Link as a participant in parent-child workshops and English as a Second Language (ESL), among others. She became a member of the Client Leadership Committee, where she took an active role in planning the annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration and Mercado de las Fiestas (Holiday Marketplace).

“Maria runs workshops for our clients on stress management, gym training, and lifestyles,” said Dennise Barahona, Parent Education Manager. “She is respectful and nurturing to everyone, and always ready to help at any time. Neighbors Link is fortunate to have volunteers like Maria, who is dedicated, dependable, artistic, and—best of all—kindhearted.”

“I am honored to receive this award,” said Lopez, “I am glad that the efforts of volunteers are recognized each year during April. Volunteering is an important part of my life, not just because I am giving back, but because I am learning valuable skills through my volunteer assignments.”
