The killing took place at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, when police responded to a call for a dispute in the vicinity in the area of Neppherhan and Ashburton avenues, said Dean Politopoulos.

When officers arrived on scene they found Madysen Denman, 16, of Yonkers on the ground at in a lifeless state, Politopoulos said.

Empress Ambulance was expedited, but Denman was pronounced dead at the scene. At the same time, a description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast to area police.

Within minutes, canvassing patrol units located the suspect vehicle on Saw Mill River Road and detained the operator; Joel Thompson of Yonkers was taken into custody without incident and the vehicle was impounded as evidence, Politopoulos said.

Detectives from the Major Case Unit, Crime Scene Unit, and investigators with the Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene on Nepperhan Avenue, interviewing subjects, canvassing for witnesses and surveillance video, processing forensic evidence, and reconstructing the accident scene with measurement tools.

The investigation found that Thompson was involved in a dispute at scene when he intentionally drove his vehicle, a blue 2006 Toyota Corolla passenger sedan, on the sidewalk in front of 354 Nepperhan and struck Denman with his vehicle causing her death, Politopoulos said,

Thompson was placed under arrest and booked on one charge of felony first-degree manslaughter. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday. The prosecution of this case is being managed by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.

The City of Yonkers and Yonkers Police Department extends its sincere condolences to the family of Madysen Denman.
