Rye Resident Praises Pelham Bakery for Quality

PELHAM, N.Y. – Rye resident and heart transplant recipient Peter Sinnott manages an apartment house on Fifth Avenue in Pelham and eats at Provisions Bake Shop and Café whenever he gets the chance.

Sinnott, who has lived in Rye for 40 years, said he must watch what he eats, and while a bakery might seem like an odd location for someone like him, he said the shop provides quality goods.

“They take particular care about having fresh food and preparing it in a cleanly way,” Sinnott said. “I go out of my way to come here.”

Nannette Conners, owner of Provisions Bake Shop and Café, will celebrate the eighth anniversary of her shop on Thanksgiving weekend. She has already started to receive orders for pies and breads for the food-filled holiday.

“It’s my single busiest day of the year,” Conners said.

Conners offers a variety of homemade goods for customers to serve at their Thanksgiving dinner. Pies range from classics, including pumpkin and apple crumb, to more unique fare, including wild turkey pecan, which is made with Wild Turkey bourbon.

The owner and her crew make all the treats from scratch and take care to not even use canned apples in the pies. The bakery also sells decorative cookies and even gourmet dog biscuits for Thanksgiving.

Conners set a deadline of Nov. 18 for all Thanksgiving orders to give her and her staff time to complete all the necessary baking. Though orders have already come in from customers from Pelham and the surrounding communities, she said there will undoubtedly be a few straggling pie orders after deadline.

The owner served dinner, along with baked goods when she first opened her shop. But she said her niche and passion is in baking, so she transitioned more towards the latter.

Conners will bake dozens of homemade pies for her customers for Thanksgiving, but she said she does not mind in the least.

“It’s because I love what I do,” Conners said. “That’s the only reason you would do it.”
