Rye Brook to Open Indoor Farmers Market

RYE BROOK, N.Y. - As winter thaws into spring, Rye Brook residents have at least one more thing to look forward to. The village announced it will open its first indoor farmers market from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25.

According to Deputy Village Clerk Elizabeth Rotfield, the idea grew from a meeting held by the village staff's Quality Task Force. The task force, which is comprised of Village Administrator Chris Bradbury and other staff members, aims to "develop ways in which to foster a greater sense of community in Rye Brook."

"Last summer we brought Shakespeare to Pine Ridge Park in cooperation with the Port Chester Council for the Arts and now we've decided to enter into the farmers market business," Rotfield said.

After researching the subject, Rotfield said the village will manage the market itself as opposed to hiring an outside company to do it.

"This eliminates the middle man and makes it more affordable for vendors to come to Rye Brook and sell their wares, while providing a much needed service to the community," Rotfield said. "The village is not looking to make any money, only to provide service to residents."

With the help of local chef Maria Reina, Rotfield has lined up 13 vendors for Rye Brook's new farmers market. Among the listed vendors are Bella Cucina Maria, Gaia's Breath Farm, Guyanck Brand Sweet and Hot Pepper Sauces, Healthway Farms, Migliorelli Farms and Big Girl Baking Desserts.

While the market is slated to begin this spring, Rotfield said he is hopeful the indoor market will also meet twice a month during the winter months as well. For more information about the Indoor farmers market visit its Facebook page.
