Port Chester's Mela Catalano, 88, Honored Saturday

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Carmela "Mela" E. Catalano, of Port Chester, died Jan. 30. She was 88.

Born March 5, 1923 in Port Chester, she was the daughter of Joseph and Concetta Siclari Catalano. She graduated from Port Chester High School in 1941 and went on to work for Henry Idleson Hospital in Riverdale, N.Y.

Catalano worked locally as a volunteer for the Salvation Army and Nathan Miller Center. Her past times included women's softball, bowling and golf. She also enjoyed reading.

She is survived by her brothers Rocco and Lewis Catalano and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Anthony, Domenick, Salvatore and Joseph Catalano and her sisters Rose Suppa, Minnie Catalano and Mary Tucci.

The funeral service will be held at Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rye Brook. Funeral arrangements are under Joseph Tutera Funeral Home in Port Chester.
