Port Chester Woman Leaves Banking for Foundation

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – It was about three years ago that Port Chester resident and lifetime banking professional Lauren Cross realized that after years of working in audit and risk management for large corporations like Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs, it was time for a career change.

"I didn't want the stress of working in a big corporation any longer," Cross said. "I wanted to change my lifestyle. I wanted to do something that helps others."

So Cross enrolled in Pace University seeking a degree in public administration with a focus in nonprofit management. Now Cross, who graduated this month, is the new director of human resources and administration for the Fairfield County Community Foundation, a nonprofit committed to pairing charitable donors to the neediest organizations.

"We work with donors to understand charitable goals and make gifts that make an impact," Cross said. "We work to find the region's greatest needs."

Since it's formation in 1992, the foundation has awarded more than $135 million in donations to organizations in Fairfield County and beyond.
