Letter: Re-Elect Blanca Lopez in Port Chester

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – TheDailyPortChester.com accepts original, signed letters to the editor. Letters may be emailed to llavoie@mainstreetconnect.us .

Letter to the Editor:

I am writing to tell everyone that a vote for Blanca Lopez is a vote for wise stewardship of the Port Chester school district. Ms. Lopez works tirelessly to improve and promote our school system. She brings transparency and openness to the Board of Education that we all want in elected leaders.

In her first term, Ms. Lopez learned the roles and responsibilities of a board member quickly. With that knowledge, she worked with the other members of the board to hire a new superintendent of schools, implement a new performance review system for teachers and help develop budgets that have passed. New York state has implemented several new unfunded mandates, cut state aid and imposed a tax levy cap with no mandate relief during the past three years. Ms. Lopez has navigated our district through these challenging times while maintaining a commitment to educational excellence. She not only speaks of advocacy but she acts, as evidenced by her trips to Albany to fight for our district during this year's very difficult budget process.

Blanca Lopez is not only a good candidate based on her first term and credentials, but also because she is dedicated to our community. She is a member of various community organizations. One can often see her at local events, engaging, supporting and serving so many people.

Please join me in voting for Blanca Lopez for the Port Chester Board of Education on May 15th.
