PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- September is Library Card Signup Month at the Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library, and kids of all ages who sign up for a library card this month will receive a special surprise.
Kids must be accompanied by their parent or guardian, who must bring a driver's license or two pieces of identification that have their name and address on it, like a telephone or utility bill.
The library is also introducing the "1,000 Books before Kindergarten" program -- a new early literacy program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their grownups.
Parents can stop by the Children's Room and pick up the reading logs and program packets.
The library will be offering a "You Picasso" art program for kids from 6-12 years old, using paint and other art materials to create landscapes and horizons. The sessions will be on Saturday, Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 22, and Nov. 12 and 19, from 11 a.m. to noon. Register in person or by calling 914-939-6710.
For more information about any of these items, call the library at 914-939-6710, ext. 108. The library is located at 1 Haseco Ave., in Port Chester.
