What's Happening Around Port Chester This Weekend

RYE/PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Several tag sales, a Civil War exhibit and a concert at The Capitol Theatre are some of the events on tap in Rye and Port Chester this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 14

Moving Sale: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 34 Mead Place, Rye.

Wiggle & Giggle Time: 9:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. Children will wiggle to music, giggle to funny rhymes and pretend to be wild animals in this lively interactive program at the Rye Free Reading Room, 1061 Boston Post Road, Rye.

Fun Club Flick “The Lorax”: 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon fun for children ages 5 and up. Dr. Seuss’ classic tale comes to life in an animated film filled with fun for everyone. Admission is free for the event, which will take place in the Community Meeting Room at Rye Free Reading Room, 1061 Boston Post Road, Rye.

Half Way To St. Patrick’s Day Irish Buffet: 7 p.m. Knights of Columbus, 327 Westchester Avenue, Port Chester. Admission is $15.

Saturday, Sept. 15

Tag Sale: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 8 Riverdale Avenue, Port Chester.

“Shelter Cats” Art Exhibit Opening: All day. Through Oct. 13 in the Children’s Room Corridor at the Rye Free Reading Room, 1061 Boston Post Road, Rye.  Elisabeth Pollaert Smith is a local photographer who has put together a photography exhibit to highlight the beauty and charm of shelter cats at the New Rochelle Humane Society. Admission is Free.

Volunteer To Sort and Package Clothing: 10 a.m. The Sharing Shelf collects gently used children’s clothing to donate and provide usable items to members of the community who are in need. Family Service of Westchester, 1 Gateway Plaza, Port Chester.

“New York In The Civil War” One-Afternoon Only Exhibit: 1 p.m. Marchand, a Civil War re-enactor for the last 20 years, will display and discuss Civil War artifacts in a one-afternoon only exhibit at the Rye Free Reading Room, 1061 Boston Post Road, Rye.

Entertainment At The Rye Free Reading Room: 2 p.m. Meredith LeVande, performer and creator of Monkey Monkey Music, entertains new kindergarteners at the K-Day Social Saturday at Rye Free Reading Room, 1061 Boston Post Road.

Big Gigantic at The Capitol Theatre: Doors opens at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. 18 and over event. Admission is $22.50 advance, $25 on day of show. The Capitol Theatre, 149 Westchester Ave., Port Chester.

Sunday, Sept. 16

Rye Farmers Market: 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. In the parking lot behind the Purchase Street stores at 9 Theodore Fremd Ave., Rye.

Port Chester High School Band Recycling: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Bring your recyclables to the Port Chester High School parking lot, One Tamarack Road, Port Chester. All proceeds benefit the high school bands.
