Record-Setting Week

WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples' boys and girls track teams turned in strong performances, including setting a school record, at meets during the holiday break.

The team of Courtney Mullen, Caroline Smith, Caroline Koenig and Georgia Kursten ran 13:26:11 to finish sixth in the Rhode Island Classic and break a school record. Mullen, Siobahn O’Loughlin, Smith and Kursten also finished sixth in the 4 x 800 relay, coming in at 10:28.68.

The boys competed at the Bacon Academy Invitational. Individual winners for the Wreckers included Matt Mula (pole vault), Henry Wynne (1,600) and Max Hoberman (300). Jon Heil took second in the 55 and fourth in the 300. Other top performers included Doug Cafery (fourth, pole vault), Ian Teran (sixth, high jump), Zach Mitchell (third in the 300, fourth in the 55), Patrick Nolan (fifth, 1,000), Kyle Hoberman (sixth, 600) and Mik Kulies (fourth, 1,600).

The Staples boys also won six events in the Hillhouse relays. They won the high jump, pole vault, sprint medley, 4 x 200, distance medley and 4 x 400 relay. The Wreckers were third in the 4 x 800 and fifth in the long jump relay.
