Putnam Hospital Center Offers Free Skin Cancer Screening

CARMEL, N.Y. -- To help Putnam County residents protect themselves from skin cancer, Putnam Hospital Center, in cooperation with the American Academy of Dermatology, will host a free skin cancer screening on Wednesday, June 15, at the hospital in Carmel.

The event, from 4:30-8 p.m. in the hospital’s Wagner Cancer Pavilion, 670 Stoneleigh Ave., will include three dermatologists on the medical staff at Putnam Hospital Center conducting the screenings.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S., with more than 8,500 Americans diagnosed each day, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, has seen its rates double from 1982 to 2011, with an estimated 144,860 new cases projected for 2016.
