Greenwich Celebrates 'Take Your Child To The Library Day'

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Children of all ages and their parents are invited to the fifth annual "Take Your Child to the Library Day" in Greenwich on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Experience a fun-filled day of activities while learning about the the Greenwich library branches, resources and programs. The day will celebrate literacy, learning and community. 

There will be a Mad Science performance of Spin, Pop, and Boom from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Community Room of the Cos Cob Library. Learn about crazy chemical reactions and gravity. Volunteers will be asked to help activate an erupting foam volcano.

Also at the Cos Cob branch is the annual Valentine Workshop sponsored by The friends of the Cos Cob Library. All the supplies will be provided for the event, which runs 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Make cards for your family, plus one for a resident of Nathaniel Witherell nursing home and rehabilitation center.

Earn a slice of pizza as you read a book, 12 p.m. at the Byram Shubert Library.

Get ready for interactive and explosive experiments with dry ice, fog, smoke-filled bubbles, flying rockets and more with Scientellers at the Main Library. This storytelling and science experiment event runs from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Cole Auditorium. Recommended for ages 4 and up; no tickets required. Doors open at 12:45 p.m.

Take Your Child to the Library Day is the brainchild of Nadine Lipman, retired head of children's services at Waterford Public Library, with the help of Caitlin Augusta from the Stratford Public Library, and the support of many others. Launched in 2012, it's grown to become a national initiative of the Connecticut Library Consortium.
