GREENWICH, Conn. -- Frank A. Corvino, Greenwich Hospital president/CEO and executive vice president of Yale New Haven Health Systems, and Fahad Ahmed, compliance and privacy officer for Greenwich and Bridgeport Hospitals and director of compliance and privacy at Yale New Haven Health Systems, will present “Compliance and the C-Suite” at the 18th Annual Healthcare Compliance Institute in San Diego.
Sponsored by the Healthcare Compliance Association, the four-day Institute will address the many new regulations resulting from healthcare reform, advancing technology, electronic health records and social media in the healthcare setting, among other issues.
Corvino and Ahmed will speak about the challenging relationship between the compliance officer, the executive team and the CEO. What does the C-Suite expect of compliance? How does compliance meet those expectations? What role does the executive team play in supporting the work of the compliance team?
“Today, compliance departments carry more importance than ever before,” says Corvino. “Healthcare reform demands that our institutions change and adapt to a seeming landslide of new government regulations."
"The magnitude of enforcement stemming from those regulations demands the role of compliance be just as important as that of clinical departments caring for the ill. After all, what good is a clinical department if compliance issues hinder or even eliminate the nobility of the program? It’s for this reason that having the right compliance officer is so important.”
During the presentation, Ahmed will address the qualities and qualifications that define an effective compliance officer in an environment that tasks healthcare organizations with simultaneously pursuing three dimensions – improving population health, reducing per capita costs and improving patient experience, including quality and satisfaction.
HCCA is a nonprofit professional membership organization dedicated to improving the quality of compliance. The 9,000-member organization expects to welcome 2,000 attendees to this year’s conference.
