Hudson Valley Summer Lacrosse in Playoff Mode

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – The inaugural season of the Hudson Valley Summer Lacrosse League played on Yorktown’s new all-purpose Legacy Field complex is winding down with championship playoffs set on begin Tuesday.

The HVSL’s first season included eight teams in two divisions and a number of the best lacrosse players in the area. Quarterfinals were held in the Open Division and semifinal games in the Over-53 Division leading up to next week’s championship rounds. Yorktown Recreation Supervisor Todd Orlowski said the lacrosse league enjoyed a great season.

“We have a lot of local talent,” Orlowski said. “The league has been great. The field at Legacy is the best in the area and we’ve had some talented teams sign up this year. We hope to continue to grow and attract new teams next year, especially in the 35 + Division.”

In the Hudson Valley Summer League’s Open Division quarterfinal, Zach Austin led the way for Tiger Blood, ending the night with three goals in a 9-6 victory over Fox Lane Alumni. Tiger Blood advanced to the semifinal round. Fox Lane’s T.J. Tynan ended the night with three goals and an assist. In Thursday’s Open semifinals, the Superstars topped Moonlight 6-3 on the strength of two goals each from goals from Dan Solazo and Ben McCabe. Brendan Morris scored twice for Moonlight. Justin Mabus scored three goals and Kevin Interlicchio scored twice to lead Husked Corn to a 7-2 victory over Tiger Blood in the second Open semifinal. Dan O’Gorman scored for the losers.

Drew Wendol tallied three goals to help lift the Gargoyles into the championship game with a 14-9 victory over the Wizards in an Over-35 Division semifinal. Tom Cegielski also scored three times for the Wizards. The Gargoyles will square off against Captain Lawrence Brewing Tuesday for the championship. Tuesday’s schedule matches the Gargoyles and Captain Lawrence Brewing a 8 p.m. in the Over-35 Division title game and Superstars versus Husked Corn at 9:15 p.m. in the Open championship.
