The former "CBS Evening News" anchor, who now anchors “Dan Rather Reports,” a weekly television news magazine, will join a long list of influential thought leaders who have spoken at the college’s “Castle Conversations” forum.
Arianna Huffington spoke to a full house on March 25. Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist and science communicator, will speak on Sept. 9, and Doris Kearns Goodwin, a Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer and historian, finishes this year’s series on Dec. 2.
Rather has covered the Kennedy assassination, the space race, political conventions, wars in Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan, and the 9/11 attack on New York City.
According to the college, Rather says he believes that the media “is being challenged and undermined on a daily basis” and that the ability of a “free and independent” press to report on local, national and international issues “has been severely curtailed, damaged and sometimes outright corrupted.”
The forum begins at 7 p.m. in Reid Castle on the college’s Purchase campus.
Tickets are $75. For more information, call (914) 323-1277, or go to www.castleconversations.org.
