Tunnel Linking Westchester To Long Island Will Be Explored

A tunnel between Long Island and Westchester could be reality depending on the outcome of a proposed feasibility study, Gov. Andrew Cuomo suggested Tuesday, speaking at the Long Island Association's Annual State of the Counties Breakfast in Woodbury.

“We have to think bold," Cuomo said in his speech. "We have to think big. We can do it. We are New Yorkers — there’s nothing we can’t do.”

Cuomo said the study would cost $5 million.

The tunnel could be from Westchester County, the Bronx or Connecticut and allow commuters to circumvent Manhattan, saving "hours and hours" of traveling time, Cuomo said.

Cuomo's suggestion will be part of his budget plan for New York rolling out Jan. 13.
