Port Chester's Capitol Theatre Announces Lineup

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Big name acts like Fiona Apple, The Roots, Herbie Hancock, Regina Spektor and the Steve Miller Band are set to headline soon-to-be reopened and revived Capitol Theatre in Port Chester in the coming months.

Tickets will go on sale later this month for upcoming shows, however area residents won’t be able to find out the headlining act for the theater’s inaugural show on Sept. 4 until later this week.

Peter Shapiro, the owner of the Brooklyn Bowl in New York City, signed a long-term lease with the theater, located at 149 Westchester Avenue. The newest artists to grace the stage will be following in the footsteps of a music legend laundry list that includes the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd the Kinks, the Grateful Dead and David Bowie.

The Capitol Theatre was designed by architect Thomas Lamb in 1926 and was listed on The National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It has 1,835 seats and includes a 65-foot domed ceiling, general admission floor, a seated balcony and six presidential box suites. Prices of shows range anywhere from $25 to nearly $100.

A benefit for the voting registration drive HeadCount will mark the venue’s second night on Friday, Sept. 7, featuring The Roots and a solo performance by Bob Weir, guitarist and founding member of the Grateful Dead. Also coming in September are Hugh Laurie & The Copper Bottom Band, Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang, three more performances by The Roots, Big Gigantic, The J.Geils Band, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Robert Cray, Dirty Projectors and David Gray.
