PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Studying marketing and business at Pace University isn’t enough for Rye Brook’s Kevin Barrett, who at the age of 20 has already launched his own clothing line.

The Port Chester High School graduate said he has known he wanted to create a clothing line and use a crown as its logo since he was 13 years old, when the skateboarding culture exposed him to graphic t-shirts.

With the help of his friend Vincent Lazzaro, who drew the logo on paper, and freelance designer Scott Tierney, the Enthrone brand was born in February. He has used Twitter and Instagram to promote his product and made sales in several states.

“The first or second week a kid bought one of everything. I was beyond words,” he said.

In addition to making money, Barrett’s goal with launching Enthrone is to show people that they can do anything.

“Every day there are people who wake up to a job, school, or place where they don't want to be,” he wrote on his website. “Every day you should be working towards your goal or your dream. If you're not, now is the time to start.”

He told Daily Voice that he used $2,000 he made working as a pool lifeguard for the last four years to get the brand off the ground.

“When I was over at school in New York City, I got up at 5 a.m. to go sit at a pool for five-to-six hours, which I hated doing. That’s where I came up with this idea,” he said.

Barrett said the Internet has been a great tool. He sent the graphics to a t-shirt manufacturer, had embroidery service and then paid them online.

Right now there are three t-shirts, one tank-top and one hat bearing the Enthrone logo. Barrett said he plans to release a hoodie and sweatshirt in the fall.

In the meantime, he said he will be offering 25 percent off all products Friday, May 23, through Monday, May 26, for Memorial Day weekend.

With skateboarding at the foundation of the idea for Enthrone, Barrett said he wants to host an event at a skate park in Westchester to display his merchandise.

"Right now its pretty small," he said of Enthrone, which has 700 followers on Instagram and 234 on Twitter. "It’s two months in and I plan to take is as far as it can go."
