Former Exec From PepsiCo In Purchase Resigns From Toyota After Drug Bust

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A former executive at PepsiCo in Purchase resigned from her position with Toyota following her arrest in Japan for allegedly importing the drug oxycodone.

Julie Hamp joined Toyota in 2012 and was the automaker’s most senior woman executive. Hamp worked at PepsiCo from December 2007 to March of 2012, according to her LinkedIn profile. She was the chief communications officer for North America for Toyota. She was the Senior Vice President for Communications at PepsiCo.

Hamp resigned on Tuesday and Toyota “accepted her resignation after considering the concerns and inconvenience that recent events have caused our stakeholders," according to a statement.

Hamp was arrested in June for allegedly using a parcel service to import oxycodone. The drug is considered a narcotic in Japan but is a legal prescription painkiller in the United States.

Hamp told police she did not intend to import narcotics, according to Japanese media.

According to Internet searches, Hamp lived in Stamford before selling her home in 2012.
